Custom software, automation and AI

We replace manual work, connect disconnected systems and give established UK businesses a clearer way to operate.

The practice

We have done the jobs the software is for.

That is why the first conversation is not spent explaining your business to us.

Engineering and AI
We have designed, built and run production systems in live operations, owned the infrastructure beneath them and answered for their security. We have put automation and AI into working businesses rather than advising on it from outside.
Commercial and operations
We have carried a P&L, run procurement and supplier relationships, and answered for what a change costs the people doing the work. We have run businesses, which is a different discipline from advising them.
Real estate and construction
We have run programmes on live sites and under contract, with the trades and the sequencing everything else depends on. In that sector, getting the order wrong is measured in weeks and in money.
Management consulting and FP&A
We have built the business case, held the forecast and defended the numbers to a board. That is the discipline that decides whether to build at all, and stops a project being justified after the fact.
Our services

Build the missing system.

Start with the part of the business that is creating delay, repetition or uncertainty. Everything you already run stays where it is. If it has an API, we join it up.

Our approach

How the work moves.

Start with the part of the business that is genuinely stuck. Build the smallest system that changes it, then improve from what happens in use.

Week 1. Find the constraint.

We trace how work actually moves through the business, speak to the people doing it and identify the point where time, information or opportunity gets lost.

Week 2. Define the first useful slice.

We choose a focused system that can stand on its own and make a visible difference. You know what it will do, what it won’t do, and how we’ll judge it.

Week 3. See working software early.

We put something real in your hands, review it together and keep decisions close to the people who will use it. Progress stays visible and the language stays plain.

Week 4. Live, then extend from evidence.

Once the system is in use, we learn from what it changes. We refine the weak points and add the next piece only when the evidence says it is worth building.

What it costs

A fixed price for the first phase, agreed before it starts.

After one conversation we recommend either a short discovery or a scoped first build, and quote a fixed price for that phase. Nothing is open-ended, and the three models below differ only in how much of the system stays with us afterwards.

Vernius · Custom software for established UK businesses

Which part of your week would you delete?

One sentence is enough. We reply within a working day with whether software is the fix, what a first build would cover, and what it would cost. If the answer is a process change or a tool you already pay for, we will say that instead.

Tell us what’s slow or stuck.

No pitch, no pressure. We’ll reply within one working day.

The questions we always get.

Early enough to steer the work with something real. For a focused build, we agree the first useful release and its timing after mapping the workflow. Larger systems still arrive in reviewable phases rather than one launch at the end.

After the first conversation we recommend either a short discovery or a scoped first build, then give you a fixed price for that phase. You know what is included, what is not and what decision comes next before approving the work.

Not at all. You run the business. Our job is to translate: to sit with how you operate and turn it into software, without making you learn ours.

Yes. We integrate with what’s working, replace what isn’t, and connect the gaps between. CRM, accounts, inbox, whatever you’re running. You keep the tools that earn their place.

The people you meet. Engagements are led by senior people throughout, and the hands that scope the work are the hands that build it. Nothing important gets lost being passed to a team you were never introduced to.

Then we’ll say so. We’d rather tell you in week one than bill you for a year. Sometimes the fix is a process change, or a tool you already pay for.

We stay on for support, iteration and the next slice as the business grows. Or, if you’d rather run it in-house, a clean documented handover. Which of those happens is your call, not ours.
